ITU-RM.1174-3 on-board vessel communications revised to include dPMR technology
ITU-R, the Radio Communication Sector of the International Telecommunication Union’s recommendation for the technical characteristics of equipment used for on-board vessel communications has been revised to include dPMR technology.
The specification for compliance with ITU-RM.1174-3 now incorporates 6.25 kHz channeling and digital 4FSK (Four-level frequency-shift keying) modulation which will significantly increase the number of channels available to users. Radio system administrations have been asked to ensure that new systems move to narrower channels to allow for the more efficient use of the available radio-frequency spectrum. The related ETSI standard for on-board UHF radios, EN300 720 is currently being updated and the new version with 6.25 kHz channels should be published this year.
